About Me

Well, my name is Reid and I have been into reptiles since 2000 when I was 14 years old. It all started when my dad got me a female Russian tortoise. Since then, there has been no turning back. I quickly, but responsibly, found out about all of the interesting species of tortoises and their care. Ever since then, I started expanding my collection. Now, I am up to around 70 animals representing about 20 different species. As you can tell, my true interest is in tortoises, but I recently got involved with Jungle Carpet Pythons and Ball Pythons.

Since there is no way I could ever be a full time reptile breeder, I pursued my career goal by going to Cal Poly Pomona to become a zoo veterinarian that specializes in reptiles. During my time at Cal Poly, I changed my major from pre-vet to zoology. My Bachelor's degree in zoology was obtained in December 2010. I also work part time in a veterinary hospital that sees reptiles on a regular basis. In the July 2009 issue of Reptiles Magazine, an article I wrote on the Redfoot and Yellowfoot Tortoises was published. You can see some bonus content HERE but the main article is only available in the magazine. I was lucky enough to be asked to write another article for Reptiles Magazine for the December 2010 issue on Marginated Tortoises.

Over the years that I have worked at the vet office, I have gained a great amount of reptile medicine knowledge, so feel free to E-MAIL me if you have a reptile medicine question.
